About Us

Cholie

Synonymous with elegance and style.

Returns to its dedicated customer base in a new format.

Cholie was founded in 1993 in Colombo, Sri Lanka by founder, Swarna Mallawarachchi as a boutique store with a focus on saris and soon grew into a multi store brand across the city, acclaimed for its consistently high quality and beautiful offering of products. It was to the dismay of its dedicated clientele that Cholie closed its doors at its physical stores in 2002. However, after a 13 year hiatus, Cholie is back in its new format as Cholie Boutique - an online store offering exclusive, high quality Indian and Sri Lankan handicrafts - ranging from saris (Kanchipurams to Tassar Silks to Cottons), dupattas, stoles, shawls, pants, kurthas and a distinctive jewellery collection.

A word about our Founder

Swarna Mallawarachchi entered the film industry in 1967 with her first feature film 'Sath Samudura' and forever changed the landscape of the potrayal of women in Sri Lankan cinema. Acclaimed locally and internationally for her unrivalled talent, she has a career that spans 6 decades and boasts 24 Best Actress award wins. Swarna is highly respected within the industry and much loved by Sri Lankan moviegoers across the world for her unique contribution to Sri Lankan cinema. Off screen, Swarna is well known for her personal style - often found in a kurtha, palazzo pants and a vibrant shawl - she has contributed to Sri Lankan women's fashion by consistently raising the bar on defining the term 'elegant attire'. On formal occasions, Swarna is clad in beautiful cotton or silk saris paired with simple earrings or flowers in her hair or a traditional 'pottu'.

Within Cholie, Swarna consistently brings her high standard of taste to the range of products that she handpicks to offer her customer base. We are excited to partner with her to present this new selection of goods to her customers and celebrate the re-emergence of Cholie as a major lifestyle brand in Sri Lanka and abroad.
